Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: A New Year's Vision at GlamInvest

Hello GlamInvest fam,

Hello GlamInvest fam, and Happy New Year!! 🎉 💃 🪩

I’m writing from my sofa at the end of my second day back at work, after the holiday break and I feel like it’s safe to say holidays should be a mandatory requirement for life in general. It was SO energizing to spend focussed time with family, reconnect with friends, and generally bank incredible memories without the distraction of work. I hope you all had a great holiday too.

Like many of you know, GlamInvest is a passion project/experiment of mine, which was birthed from my deep love for all things beauty, fashion, and wellness. In case you missed it, my first blogpost shares a bit more about some of my explorations in the industry.

With the new year unfolding, my reflections on the past few months of experimentation fuels a renewed mission at GlamInvest.

As I've explored the world of the beauty, fashion, and wellness industries, a compelling trend has become evident: despite women being the predominant consumers, the majority of these industries' wealth and businesses are disproportionately concentrated in a few titanic companies controlled by men.

If you don’t believe me, look up the CEOs of your favorite top companies in the space — Lululemon, Estee Lauder, Zara, Gucci, Fendi, Peloton, L’Oreal, etc. Chances are they aren’t women. In the case of this quick list I put together, that chance of the company leader being a woman is exactly 0%. This is not to say that women entrepreneurs and leaders don’t exist in the space (they do! And, part of my mission is to bring them to you!), but to show how much of an imbalance exists in terms of where the power resides, even in an industry that would not exist without women.

This imbalance is more than just a disparity in numbers; it represents a significant missed opportunity for women, who are the main drivers and influencers in these markets, to also be at the forefront of business ownership and wealth creation.

Recognizing this gap is a central element of my mission at GlamInvest.

As a result, this year, my resolution with GlamInvest is to:

  1. Empower Aspiring Entrepreneurs: Helping to break the ‘cold start’ problem for women who have a desire to launch successful businesses.

  2. Offer Actionable Insights to Business Owners: Providing practical strategies for existing entrepreneurs to serve customers effectively and boost profitability.

  3. Build Strong Connections: Facilitating networks to advance women's business and career aspirations in beauty, fashion, and wellness.

Stay tuned for an exciting announcement as I reshape the format to enable GlamInvest deliver on this mission.

Join me in making 2024 a landmark year for women in the business of beauty, fashion, and wellness.

Let’s transform passion into empowerment and success together.

Warmly,

Sola
